Job Summary

Vietnam has been designated by Takeda leadership as a strategic growth market. The country represents a critical opportunity to make a true impact by addressing unmet medical needs through our innovative portfolio, Access to Medicines (AtM) activities as well as very near-term dengue vaccine launch.

The Vietnam Country Manager will play an integral role in continuing the transformation of the company into an agile, innovative operation that is able to navigate access challenges today that prevent patients from obtaining the appropriate treatment for highly specialized conditions and bring to market a high impact Vaccines business unit in the near future that has the potential to significantly alleviate dengue virus outbreaks within Vietnam.

The vision in Vietnam is to serve the needs of our patients by acting as a catalyst to sustainably strengthen evolving healthcare ecosystems by forging alliances with reputable external partners, while expanding patient reach and impact with our innovative medicines in Oncology, Rare Diseases, Neuroscience, PDT and Gastroenterology transform the LOC through significant launch into vaccines.

The role will be tasked with the following:

  • Drive overall performance in providing leadership in achieving profitability and growth targets in line with overall business strategy of the company.

  • The role will be in charge of Commercial (Marketing & Sales), Medical Affairs, Market Access & Public Affairs, Finance, Human Resources, Ethics & Compliance, Regulatory.

  • Engage with external stakeholders to represent Takeda strategy and values while growing reputation of the company in Vietnam.

  • Develop long range vision of the needs of the organization, anticipate the impact of external and business trends and prepare plans to accommodate business changes while meeting overall company objectives.

  • Build and execute the organization’s Vaccines capabilities to transform the LOC and achieve the uptake ambition aligned to latest forecast assumptions.

  • Continue to build on the AtM strategy in expanding sustainable growth to eligible patients to our existing portfolio, innovative drugs and building on the strategic pillars in the patient journey.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration involving alignment, decisions, identification of issues and solutions regarding core business processes and operations. Anticipate & act with agility to changes in the legal & regulatory environment.

  • Support in elevating Vietnam’s profile and potential with the internal organization

Job Function and Description

General Management

  • Provide leadership to the country organization in planning and execution of innovative, high-impact programs, as well as enhancement of current processes to optimize strategic and business outcomes.
  • Liaise with MCO management team to report company performance and other issues related to company operations.
  • Direct all financial activities including financial reviews and performance data.
  • Direct public affairs and CSR activities to develop positive relationships with government and pharmaceutical industry societies.
  • Represent the company externally e.g. at networking events, conferences and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen the company’s profile and optimize all business development opportunities.

Strategy and Planning

  • Establish aligned objectives, goals, strategies and measures across commercial operations that will be monitored and reviewed throughout the fiscal year.
  • Define strategic direction of the portfolio and pipeline, aligning with regional and corporate goals, and advocating for portfolios in the annual planning process and integrate management inputs to ensure that short-term and long-term strategies and objectives are agreed upon and in place.
  • Approve the rationale, business plan design and implementation of portfolio strategies, including budget allocations.

Execution and Implementation

  • Possess thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical industry—pharmaceutical industry dynamics, healthcare economics, business cycles and regulatory environment.
  • Accountable for gaining market and / or patient share as appropriate through execution of effective portfolio strategies.
  • Oversee teams in managing overall performance of the portfolio, development of individual competencies, and compliance with company policies and PHAP Code.
  • Drive discipline in reviewing performance versus objectives, execution versus plan, and corrective action necessary to achieve desired performance outcomes.  
  • Establish and implement processes to identify, capture and share commercial best practices across the organization.

People and Engagement

  • Ensure strong cross-functional collaboration in continuously identifying opportunities and uncovering patient needs and developing ways to measure, track and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Champion discipline of regular performance feedback and coaching session across the levels.
  • Optimize relevant communication channels to engage commercial teams on performance, external business dynamics, issues and opportunities, and people development matters.
  • Ensure good relations and communications with all stakeholders (internal and external) to achieve business objectives.
  • Drive talent acquisition in line with business strategies and assure strategic workforce planning, including on-boarding, performance management, talent development and enforcing employee discipline in the country organization.

Patient Access & Vaccines

  • Manage partnerships in strengthening the health systems, through shaping of public and policy advocacy, maintaining and expanding innovative access, and building capacity in order to create sustainable access to patients for our Innovative portfolio.
  • Liaison with Regional Vaccines team and build, develop and retain a strong best in class Vaccines team to achieve deliverables of ambitious launch plans.
  • Responsible for ensuring public / private funding strategies and inclusion in NIP (National Immunization Program).

  • Build strategy to consistently reinforce values with a workforce that will grow threefold in the next 12 months.

Key Responsibilities

Education and Experience

  • Due to the very specific work visa requirements in Vietnam, all non-local national applicants are requested to confirm their highest level of university and degree qualification on applying.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ work experience in commercial operations with strong sales & marketing management, access and policy shaping experience / exposure within the pharmaceutical industry in a senior management capacity.
  • Vaccines experience and/or local Vietnam management experience is preferred.
  • Proven track record in leading, managing and motivating individuals and teams.
  • Pharmaceutical experience in the Vietnam with a multinational company.
  • Launch experience of innovative pharmaceutical or vaccine products.
