Hi, my name is José, Sustainability Lead at the Neuchatel Site, and I’ve been working at Takeda for 3 years.

What has your career journey with Takeda been so far?

It has been a very exciting and rewarding journey with many challenges and a unique opportunity to lead sustainability initiatives here at the Neuchatel Site.

It has been thrilling to use my technical background to implement all the projects that lead the site to net zero emissions while reducing water and energy consumption.

What about your role do you find the most rewarding?

I’m working with the subjects that I like best and that are in the area of my expertise, “helping the planet to help patients” at the same time.

It’s very pleasing to have full support from the organization on the implementation of sustainability initiatives that maximize our efficiency and help us transition to low-carbon and renewable energy sources.

What is your biggest achievement so far?

My biggest achievement was the implementation of the Climate Action Program on-site. It gathers a big team that helps with the identification and implementation of the sustainability project roadmap.

These projects lead the site to net zero emissions, reduced water consumption, reduced waste generation, renewable energy generation, and improved energy efficiency.

It’s very pleasing to have full support from the organization on the implementation of sustainability initiatives that maximize our efficiency and help us to transition to low carbon and renewable energy sources.

Who has helped you in your career and how?

Strong support, encouragement, and guidance from a role model of leadership; my manager (William Marshall, EHS Head), and the experienced and helpful colleagues have been the key.

When others ask, how do you describe what it’s like to work for Takeda?

The work environment at Takeda is inclusive, safe, and honest. It’s a place where we feel welcomed, listened to, and appreciated. Flexible work options contribute to my well-being and job satisfaction.

We also pioneer new approaches to become net-zero on emissions for our operations and to me, it’s a reason to be proud of working for Takeda.

How do you balance your personal interests and obligations outside of work? Do you have some tips to share with others on improving work-life balance?

For me, it is important to reserve time to spend with family and friends. I like practicing summer sports outdoors since it helps to relax and clear up my mind.

I can’t miss skiing in the winter, and enjoying the Neuchatel Lake and the sea in my home country in the summer.
