Job Description

Are you looking for a patient-focused company that will inspire you and support your career? If so, be empowered to take charge of your future at Takeda. Join us as a Director, Therapeutic Area Policy and Advocacy. This is a remote position.

Here, everyone matters, and you will be a vital contributor to our inspiring, bold mission. As a Director, Therapeutic Area Policy and Advocacy working on the Public Affairs team, you will be empowered to direct and collaborate across functional areas to develop and execute government affairs strategies that support the commercial business units.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Drive engagement with advocacy groups aligned with Takeda’s therapeutic focus; identify, create, and sustain innovative partnerships to support brand goals.
  • Manage product and therapeutic area policy issues and provide strategic counsel to function leaders, brand teams and government affairs to ensure effective alignment with corporate policy positions.
  • Serve as primary point of contact to brand teams for brand planning, strategy development, and alliance development across a product’s life cycle.
  • Anticipate trends in the external environment that may impact Takeda and develop plans to address areas of concern.
  • Provide knowledge development support to government affairs team in order to influence the environment in their targeted geographies in a manner that supports Takeda’s business objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:  

  • Lead analysis of the external environment specific to brand teams, advising brands on emerging and existing healthcare policies and trends, how they affect the operating environment, identifying opportunities and challenges 
  • Develop, lead and execute strategic government affairs initiatives to shape policy landscape in support of current and future brand portfolio.
  • Develop, manage and maintain trusted relationships with appropriate thought leaders, policymakers, and third party associations to advance Takeda’s therapeutic area policy agenda. Pinpoint synergies with Takeda’s priorities to build consensus, and form coalitions to appropriately weigh in on public policies that support improved patient outcomes.
  • Serve as primary point of contact and designated partner to brand teams.
  • Lead strategic advocacy dialogue with relevant internal business functions and multiple external stakeholders to ensure alignment of priorities, timely information exchange, and issue responsiveness.
  • Develop policy and advocacy strategies and external stakeholder relationships in collaboration with regional Government Affairs Directors to advance brand objectives
  • Create and execute corporate-supported collaborative initiatives with external stakeholders in order to improve the standard of care and ensure access to healthcare services and treatment
  • Develop and manage program budgets necessary to support policy and advocacy objectives

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (policy, government, sciences); Master’s degree/PhD in public policy, public health, political science desirable
  • Minimum 10 years related experience in the pharmaceutical industry, or another health care sector
  • Minimum 5 years of government payer sector/reimbursement, government affairs or policy development
  • Demonstrated ability for advocacy, coalition building, and/or grassroots mobilization
  • Excellent skills, knowledge, understanding and extensive background in the core areas of government affairs and policy
  • Exceptional strategic thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to quickly form lasting and trusted relationships
  • Strong communication skills and professional presence to support effective engagement with policymakers, advocacy organizations, and professional societies
  • Team player who can collaborate, support and implement both internal and external strategic initiatives to advance corporate objectives

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to travel in the US up to 30%
