Job Description


The BU IT & Digital Business Partner will serve as single point of contact (SPOC) for all the JPBU and JOBU's technology and digital needs.

The role requires a person who can combine an ability to partner with senior stakeholders at all levels in the organization, who feels comfortable both at discussing strategy and roadmap as well as getting hands-on when required and who has a demonstrated ability to get “things done” on behalf of his/her stakeholders through a formal and an informal network in a global matrix IT organization.

  • Strategic Positioning – The role is an industry relevant, strategic technology leader for Takeda.  This leader will help shape and drive growth, innovation and differentiation across BU, while maintaining global alignment, through existing standards and emerging technology

  • Commercial IT Business Partnering – Align and collaborate with Takeda business and IT leaders. Become a SPOC for JPBU&JOBU’s BU. Act as an advisor and coordinator in identifying and delivering relevant solutions that add business value

  • Commercial IT Strategy – The role will be responsible for influencing and understanding the business strategy. Taking this business strategy and defining how it can be enabled with the appropriate technologies (applying existing, emerging and new IT standards)

  • Capability Development and Co-Creation – The role will drive business value across key commercial capabilities including but not limited to market access, product launch, patient services and digital engagement, HCP services, marketing, sales and analytics. The role should act as a trusted advisor to the business, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels to guide and co-create new capabilities that are directly relevant to BU’s commercial growth strategy

  • Integration with IT – The role will collaborate with other Japan based BU IT & Digital Heads within Commercial IT to shape IT vision and direction. He/she will be expected to demonstrate leadership and strong people development to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Takeda IT

  • Operational responsibility – The role will be responsible for day-to-day BU Commercial IT operations and performance while also delivering committed portfolio of Commercial projects. Given that this role acts as a SPOC between the business and IT, it will be expected that the candidate understands and coordinates all aspects of IT including end user experience (infrastructure and applications) in Japan. This may include coordinating a number of IT roles that do not directly report into the Commercial IT lead


  • Understand and know the Japan Pharmaceutical and Lifesciences environment and the underlying IT & Digital solutions being consumed by the industry

  • Help to influence and improve the solutions so that our business partners, customers and patients have the best possible experience with Takeda

    • Know the IT solutions deployed in JPBU – both the Commercial IT solutions and all technology that supports the user base

    • Help improve the end user experience by working with relevant IT teams (for example, help improve onboarding/offboarding processes)

  • Understand the broader IT organization (Key when acting as a SPOC) so that the appropriate teams can be engaged correctly to deliver the best solutions

    • Network with and get to know the key team members across all IT functions (CTUX, UAMS, Enterprise Digital, R&D, Corporate IT, Global Manufacturing and Supply, etc.) so that demand and solutions can be best coordinated, especially those areas not directly in the scope of Commercial IT

  • Be the best business partner and continue to build you and your teams business acumen

    • Understand the Takeda business, its geographies, its franchises, the disease states and the products and services we provide

    • Actively participate in BU’s strategy and roadmap definition, ensuring technology & digital are key enablers in the discussion. Be a technology evangelist

    • Be an active part in the launch of new products and also the established brand teams, proactively suggesting ways in which technology can maximize the value for society, our patients and Takeda

    • Always be identifying and actioning how the business strategy, initiatives and goals can be best enabled using our standard IT solutions. Identify and act appropriately when significant gaps exist between the business strategy and the standard IT solutions available. Always be collaborative and transparent

  • Manage business demand

    • Be able to translate the business strategy and roadmap into specific IT (Commercial and non Commercial) demand

    • Coordinate with the relevant Commercial Business Process Experts as well as other Global IT functions to enable BU’s core capabilities (Sales, Marketing, Patient Engagement, Non personal engagement, Analytics & Insights)

    • Build and maintain IT roadmaps in alignment with BU’s strategic plans, ensuring those roadmaps are aligned in the region and globally

  • Ensure the Global Commercial Toolkit is fully maximized in BU

    • Collaborate to ensure demand is appropriately collected, filtered, consolidated, prioritized, funded and resourced

    • Communicate and agree the operating plan across the business and IT leadership

    • Support the IT & Digital Head for JPBU&JOBU to execute the operating plan

  • Measure progress and stay within agreed budget

    • Use relevant scorecards to monitor and manage progress across operations (end user experience), projects and budget

    • Take appropriate action to keep on track IT’s commitments

    • Communicate progress within the business and IT

    • Present Japan Commercial IT metrics to BU leadership

  • Leadership, Organizational and Team development

    • Understand what roles, responsibilities and sizing are needed to provide support to the business environment you support

    • Create a culture of agility, performance, and value in technology services


  • Deep understanding of overall business process capabilities

  • Experience in the Pharma/Life Sciences Industry

  • Ability to connect, orchestrate and influence different stakeholders from various departments and vendors to drive for affordable and usable solutions

  • In depth knowledge of the different technology & digital solutions in the Commercial space

  • Ability to collect and understand Commercial IT and Digital Solution business requirements from cross functional stakeholders, then able to ensure solutions are delivered to business on time and budget through the Business Process Experts and the GCC


Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Exceptional knowledge of existing and emerging digital technologies.  Understanding of online communities and key success factors for driving exceptional results

  • An ability to develop, document and present simple Business documentation including Business Cases, Business Requirements, Technology Architecture and Project Plans

  • Experience using Commercial technologies (Web CMS, Analytics tools, CRM, Email Marketing)

  • Experience in digital design and digital coding a plus

  • Apply global solutions where possible and local solutions only when necessary


  • Ability to partner with stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Proven ability to lead in a heavily matrix global organization

  • A strategic mindset and the ability to create a technology roadmap

  • Acts like an owner by delivering results, creating value for our stakeholders (internals and externals)

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:(List the essential and desirable education and competency requirements to perform the primary responsibilities of the job.  Any minimum requirements should be noted.)

  • Fluent in Japanese & High Level Business English

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 10 years of information management and/or related work experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry

  • Project management qualification or equivalent experience preferable

  • Experience on large IT projects from start to end

  • Strong knowledge of information management, data quality, data constraints and Governance Frameworks

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing CRM or solutions


  • Master Degree in Computer Sciences, Life Sciences or Business


  • Strong collaborating skills and experience in people management and skills development

  • Strong commercial business acumen with knowledge of interdependencies that impact the organization

  • Expertise in budget planning and financial management.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to listen and influence stakeholders at all levels

  • Proven track record of driving change in processes and organizations, while maintaining working relationships with key business customers.

  • Versed in Risk management possessing ability to identify, analyse, track, manage and resolve risks issues that impact project

  • Expert in technology resolutions in SAP, SaaS, and Cloud

  • Experience with full software development life cycle in regulated environment (FDA, GxP, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR and other data privacy, computer system validation, a plus)


  • Domestic Travel of up to 5% may be required from this position.
