Job Description

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE (3-4 bullets)

  • Global Launch Management drives the execution of compliant, on time, product supply in support of GMS launch pipeline and in alignment with Takeda’s growth objectives.
  • Effectively lead cross functional Supply Chain Launch Team (SLT) in new product introduction and geographic expansion launches, meeting commercial ambition and strategic business needs.
  • Implement standardized launch practices across organization in support of high priority strategic products/projects, life cycle management and product enhancement.

Develop and execute detailed launch plan, partnering with internal and external teams and ensuring timely launch supply to commercial affiliates.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Describe the primary duties and responsibilities of the job.  Include only the essential functions of the job. Approximately 5 – 10 bulleted task statements should be identified).

  • Launch point of contact:  Collaborate with GEM GSC Launch Coordinator and Product Team (PT), serving as China point of contact for launch reporting, escalation, etc.  Work directly with China Commercial team and LOC’s to meet desired launch timelines.
  • Lead NPI and geographic expansion launches (60%)
    • Launch planning: Develop detailed launch plans in alignment with short-term launch strategy & local site/LOC leadership, working with international cross functional team in support of successful on-time product launch.
    • Launch management & coordination: Manage & monitor launch execution according to a milestone-based launch plan for selected launches in first and subsequent market expansion.   Lead SLT to ensure product availability for launch.  Provide support to market during LCM activities such as MA changes and re-submission/re-launch.
    • Ensure strategy and TSA execution information is being transferred to/from the PT team and SLT members.

      • Partner with POLs and other stakeholders of the product team to evaluate decisions of strategy relating to launch, develop launch scenarios, etc.
      • Ensure SLT fulfills TSA of launches as agreed upon and in support of GSC KPI
      • Track launch status and leading metrics for specific geographic launches, routinely update launch project portfolio
      • Translate leading metrics into action, escalating through BPO, PT, Global S&OP, etc.
      • Support and lead Level 1-2 launches and provide guidance/training to SC Planning for Level 3-4 launches
    • Data Collection and Management (30%)
      • Launch readiness and data management: Maintain accurate launch data in centralized system, ensuring alignment with Commercial Launch Excellence, PT and Brand Teams. 
      • Ensure appropriate system linkages (SPOT, Qlik, etc.) to ensure all data is aligned.
      • Responsible for quality of the data, leading quarterly review of launch pipeline with key stakeholders.
      • Support GSC KPI “launch excellence” in alignment with GSCE.
    • Global Product Launch process (10%)
      • Global Launch Process: Support continuous improvement activities, enhancing and standardizing launch playbook, tools and checklists, etc. 
    • DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

      Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise(Breadth and depth of knowledge, application and complexity of technical knowledge)

    • Understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain processes in pharmaceutical industry  
    • Skilled in project, program and change-management 
    • Understanding of organizational structure and internal and external operating models
    • Ability to develop and implement concepts for optimizing existing global processes and tools
    • Effectively leads the implementation of major plans and programs across functions and/or regions.
    • Leadership(Vision, strategy and business alignment, people management, communication, influencing others, managing change)

    • Ability to operate cross functionally, working with all relevant functions to launch a product, including but not limited to Global Functions like Strategy & Business Excellence, Global Logistics & Distribution, TPI-Z SC Coordination and local functions such as local SC, Manufacturing & Supply, Artwork Management, Tax, Legal, Commerical, LOC, etc.  
    • Lead cross functional global or regional SLTs in execution of GSC launch plans
    • Support functions when transitioning launch responsibilities from GSC.
    • Manages relationships with internal and external partners, understanding differences and managing expectations.
    • Decision-making and Autonomy(The capacity and authority to make organizational decisions, autonomy in decision-making, complexity of decisions, impact of decisions, problem-solving)

    • Lead SLTs– ensuring supply of Takeda products from initial launch through market expansion/ product enhancements.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across organization.
    • Drive for decisions and identify risks in timely manner, escalating to through Launch organization.
    • GSC representative on Product Team (PT) and Regional Brand teams (where such exist).
    • Provide leadership to own discipline and provide discipline expertise across functions.
    • Effectively leads the implementation of launch plans & programs across functions and/or regions.
    • Work independently with guidance in only the most business-critical situations.
    • Interaction(The span and nature of one’s engagement with others when performing one’s job, internal and external relationships)

    • RSCC: Ensure agreement on launch strategy with region/country
    • GD&L: Ensure agreement on execution of local launch execution 
    • TPI-Z SC: Input to TPIZ flows in support of launch 
    • OpU: Alignment on launch execution plan and SLTs roles & responsibilities
    • SLT: Developing launch scenarios and plans, execution of launch plan 
    • Commercial Launch Excellence: Collaborate with commercial partners to ensure
    • GMS/GQ Product Team (PT): Member of PT representing GSC Launch
    • Innovation(The required level of scientific knowledge, knowledge sharing, innovation and risk taking)

    • Implement process improvement through knowledge sharing, benchmarking and analysis of data
    • Complexity(Products managed, mix of businesses, internal and/or external business environment, cultural considerations)

    • Capability to manage & enable resolution of complex launch related issues.
    • Proved success in gaining cross functional alignment and support.
    • Ability to simplify the complex and drive decisions with cross-functional partners
    • Interprets short-term strategy for team in alignment with PT long-term strategy.
    • Provides technical expertise and guidance to SLTs to ensure successful launch.
    • EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: (List the essential and desirable education and competency requirements to perform the primary responsibilities of the job.  Any minimum requirements should be noted.)

    • Bachelor or master’s degree in business administration and/or Supply Chain management  
    • Min 7--11 years of prior relevant experience in Supply Chain operations 
    • Solid experience, deep knowledge in pharmaceutical industry 
    • Strong experience in launching new products 
    • Communication skills with all levels in organization and ability to develop rapport with Takeda leaders
    • Problem solving, negotiating and presentation skills
    • Leadership, networking and influencing skills
