Independently designs and implements novel bio-/analytical methods to support research projects relating to the development of antisense or siRNA oligonucleotide based therapeutics. Contributes to multiple projects, acting as a senior scientific consultant, may be a project team leader, or providing key technical knowledge to a project team.


  • Plays a leading role in the development of bio-/analytical methods to quantitate, characterize and to further understand the metabolic fate of proprietary ASO and siRNA based therapeutics and conjugates thereof, such as GalNAc, antibody, peptide, lipid, SMol and siRNA encapsulated in LNPs.
  • Develop and implement innovative high-resolution mass spectrometry-based metabolite profiling and identification platforms.
  • Develop various bioanalytical methods that includes LC-MS/MS, ELISA, stem-loop qPCR methods to support bioanalysis of oligonucleotides in a variety of biological matrices.
  • Lead the evaluation, purchase and installation of state-of-the art MS hardware and software to support oligonucleotide-conjugate characterization and to aid in the identification of oligonucleotide related impurities and metabolite identification.
  • Act as an oligonucleotide bio-/analytical SME and work cross functionally to build internal capabilities.
  • Manage external CRO workstreams as needed and the tech transfer of methods.
  • Support LC-MS instruments operation, daily maintenance and troubleshooting.


Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Proven track record of scientific contributions in the development of oligonucleotide analytical and bioanalytical methods to support oligonucleotide delivery platform development through publications and/or biotech and pharma drug discovery experience
  • Demonstration of ability to develop novel HRMS mass spectrometry based methods for oligonucleotide quantitation and qualitative analysis.
  • Demonstrates inter-disciplinary knowledge of drug discovery (in vitro/in vivo pharmacology, ADME, PK/PD, translational research & toxicology).
  • Maintains a current appreciation of the scientific literature and understanding of the state of the art in ASO and siRNA bioanalytical methods across a wide-range of assay types.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical; and bioanalytical skills to characterize oligonucleotides and their conjugates using a variety of techniques including but not limited to LC-UV-HRMS, SEC/SAX/IPRP, Gel based methods, fluorophore labeling, stem-loop qPCR, HPLC-FL.


  • Recognized as a major contributor and/or leader of multi-disciplinary projects, with significant accountability for progress on projects important to achieving site goals.
  • Prepares and organizes data for presentation. Communicates strategy and results in written and oral reports to various levels of management.  Communicates research efforts to collaborators, corporate partners, or at scientific meetings.
  • Contribute and work cross functionally to establish the strategic direction of oligonucleotide bio-/analytical capability development at Takeda. Identifies, proposes and develops new solutions to discovery strategy.
  • Strong and effective manager and mentor of both junior and senior scientists, demonstrating exemplary behaviors and able to support and enhance career development of all line reports.
  • Scientific driver for research strategy that impacts group internally and outside area of function.
  • Highly motivated and flexible with ability to work in fast-paced environment. Ability to provide novel creative solutions to challenging problems.  Desire to learn and tackle new challenges and initiatives.

  • Provides expert input in evaluation of external/partnership opportunities, including participating in diligence exercises. Initiates and leads external interactions and collaborations.
  • Positive can-do attitude with excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional scientists. Ability to clearly and concisely conveys ideas and opinions.


  • Leads effort to identify emerging trends in oligonucleotide and oligo-conjugate bioanalysis, and maintains awareness of new state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Develops and contributes to company’s intellectual property domain by way of patents and publications.


  • Ph.D. in Biology or Chemistry (or a related field) with thesis, publication(s), postdoctoral experience, and a minimum of 3 years relevant scientific and technical experience including industry experience, or
  • MS with 8+ years experience, or
  • BS with 10+ years experience
