Job Description

Job Title: Accounting Manager

Reports to (Job Title): Controlling Lead

Department: Finance

Job purpose

  • Drives and co-ordinates with Takeda Business Solutions (“TBS”) centres the financial closing process, prepares and reviews financial and accounting analysis, BS reviews. Delivers resolution on operational open items.
  • Responsible for the oversight of all accounting activities for Italy as the first point of contact (FPOC) for TBS and the other components of the local Finance Function.
  • Acts as Business Partner to both TBS’ teams and the local business, facilitating robust assessment and implementation of all business aspects into proper financial reporting
  • Develops deep understanding of how our business works and the interdependencies. Applies this knowledge to co-create innovative solutions that enable us to achieve our financial results with the strongest Integrity role modelling Patients, Trust, Reputation and Business (PTRB) principles

Major accountabilities

  • Drives and co-ordinates the financial closing process for Takeda in Italy
  • Coordinates with TBS, external advisors and auditors, group and corporate functions in all financial reporting & accounting responsibilities
  • Acts as the Affiliate's first reference point and advisor for Accounting and related Controls manuals/SOX program
  • Work closely with Business Services to ensure high quality of the ledgers and full compliance with Accounting Policies
  • Prepare and review financial and accounting analysis involving complex transactions including, but not limited to, general accounting, fixed assets, intercompany and financial reporting activities/transactions.
  • Coordinates BS reviews and supports Cash Flow analytics
  • Liaise with TBS and Corporate functions to assess complex business cases ensuring proper accounting treatment and supporting Accounting Position Papers if needed
  • Maintain Chart of Accounts in alignment with TBS
  • Work closely with personnel in all departments to ensure compliance with company accounting and operational guidelines in accordance with IFRS GAAP
  • Supports Finance Business Partners in proper Cost Center structuring
  • Propose and implement initiatives aimed to improve efficiency, quality of the process
  • Supports Head of Controlling in supervising the Controllership area, in bridging business forecasting to profitability forecasting, in securing robust statutory and fiscal diligence

Other responsibilities include:

  • Assist in audit preparation and all other projects assigned
  • Supports activities concerning other members/teams within Finance Dept (Planning, Finance Business Partners, SOX Lead, Credit Management)
  • Supports the Head of Controlling in re-engineering, implementing, disseminating key financial controls and policies/processes (including SOX programs)

Key performance indicators/Measures of success 

Financial and Business Results:

  • Monthly Financial Reporting transmission accuracy & timeliness
  • Full compliance with Accounting Policies
  • Timely completion of all deliverables as defined by the Company’ SOX program for what assigned to the role (i.e., control self-assessments, walkthroughs, control execution and remediations, etc)
  • Proper support to Qtr and Yearly SOX attestations 302 and 404

  • Internal customer satisfaction with quality, appropriateness, and timeliness of financial analyses in support to BPAs and divisions

Ideal background 


  • University degree in economics, business, engineering or related field
  • Preferred Advanced degree/courses in business, economics, engineering or related field preferred
  • Very fluent English


  • 7 - 10 years working experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in complex, structured multinational environments (with a shared service centre structure a plus)
  • Significant (5+ years) first-hand working expertise in GL and/or fiscal matters, preferably with International correlations
  • Proven technical knowledge of IFRS, ITA GAAP (and US GAAP) principles and on-the-job application
  • Strong preparation on Italian statutory and fiscal requirements
  • Working experience in auditing consulting firms a strong plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to clearly present financial data in reports distributed to regional and global officers as well as communicating essentials to non-Finance counterparts
  • Strong SOX / internal control programs understanding and experience
  • Excellent analytical ability
  • Experience in structuring and administering intercompany or external affiliate financing schemes, Transfer Pricing matters and/or cash pooling set-ups
  • Experience designing and operating financial reporting and forecasting systems
  • Strong plus: experience with complex company integrations

Technical skills

  • SAP in-depth working knowledge (implementation/roll-out experience a plus) with FI/CO modules
  • Overall strong financial skills (budgeting and/or controlling, credit, financing and cash flow management, financial statements, ...)
  • Internal controls, SOX proficiency
  • Proficiency with MS Office
