Job Description

Objectives of position: The purpose of this position is to ensure full availability of manufacturing and lab equipment, utilities and facilities to support the business with the required quality level, guaranteeing that all the systems are operated and maintained within the given budget frame and by strictly following the technical norms, safety rules, company policies and cGMP regulations

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordination and daily management of the maintenance department (corrective, preventive, predictive maintenance) establishing medium and long-term objectives to ensure compliance with the department's KPIs.
  • Oversee smooth operation of Preventive and Corrective Maintenance, keeping track of work order completion and performance metrics. Ensure maximum productivity and efficiency in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, efficiency, and speed is followed in all aspect of the jobs executed by the department. Strive for 100% plant equipment and operational reliability.
  • Ensure improvement of service level by driving planning and scheduling of Work Orders to maximize facilities & equipment uptime and availability.
  • Oversee the contracted vendors performing activities related to equipment and facility maintenance and repair
  • Write and/or review department operational/maintenance and engineering SOP’s
  • Apply specialized knowledge in a creative way to a broad range of difficult problems. Encourage use of predictive technologies for Maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate records keeping equipment and systems cGMP compliant
  • Oversee applicable budgets for Maintenance and applicable cost centers. Ensure proper vendor MSA, SOW, WO, and POs are developed, and approved to support required financial processes.
  • Optimize maintenance intervention procedures, ensuring the budget of the department.
  • May manage directly or staff responsible for overseeing small CAPEX projects.
  • Subject matter expert for equipment, utilities & facilities during health authorities’ audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects (efficiency, quality, energy saving and operating cost reduction)
  • Create and maintain employee and organizational development, as well as HR plans which meet business needs. Promotes an open and transparent working environment.
  • Review and analyze proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
  • Oversee the contracted vendors performing activities related to equipment and facility maintenance and repair
  • Drive improvements through performance metrics (KPI’s).

Education and experience

  • BS degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline is preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Facilities and Maintenance or related field required in the biotechnology or pharma industry
  • Minimum 5 years leading diverse technical teams required.
  • Experience working in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Experience of automated equipment
  • Experience in IFM
  • Experience of working to appropriate health & safety standards and regulations.
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience with Kaizen and Continuous Improvement Process
  • Experience with change control and deviation processing in a GMP regulated environment preferred.
  • Strong experience in Reliability Programs and Energy Management preferred.

Skills and Competencies


  • Forward thinking the ability to work with system & technical metrics, identify variances & deficiencies while improving maintenance program and performance.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Able to handle multiple task/priorities and the ability to work under specific time constraints are required.
  • Able to work after hours and on call as needed; weekend shift support and shutdowns
  • Build and develop the culture using continuous improvement methodolo


  • Multi skilled in both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • An understanding of operating and testing requirements for equipment and utilities
  • Ability to check and respond to Equipment Monitoring System & Building Management Systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • CAD
  • Excellent communications skills (written & verbal) in English (C1) and the local language


  • This position requires a high degree of analytical skills to provide solutions to improve processes and integrate new equipment to meet company and project objectives
  • Able to build and lead a team.
  • Work independently and make sound judgments regarding work methods and tools.
  • Ability to influence across all levels and organizations and prioritize competing priorities.
  • Ability to effectively work in cross functional teams, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Work with contractors, consulting engineers, architects, and their representatives to insure high performance.
