Title: Senior Director - US Business Unit Accounting & Finance

This role focuses on the accounting and financial planning & analysis functions for Takeda's US Business Unit.

The position reports directly into the CFO, USBU, and a key member on the USBU Finance Leadership team.  The position also liaisons with the Global Controllership function and is a member of the Chief Accounting Officer’s Leadership team.  Key Objectives are as follows:

  • Lead the USBU Business Planning and Analysis (BP&A) team, including key planning cycles of the Mid-Range Plan, Mid-Year Commitment, and Long Range Plan.
  • Oversee revenue recognition process (gross-to-net) of $13B of US BU product sales over multiple legal entities for a diverse portfolio of products, including management of the commercial controllership team based in Exton, PA
  • Provide accounting and finance expertise for USBU initiatives and projects.
  • Responsible for managing external audit as well as compliance with SOX requirements in the USBU.


Business Planning & Analysis

  • Deliver critical financial guidance to senior level management.
  • Develop financial insights to USBU leadership on risks and opportunities based on understanding of results and partnering with the commercial business leaders.
  • Build consensus with USBU financial leadership on the key messages, format and specific content for budget cycle submissions to Corporate Finance. 
  • Responsible for regular periodic and ad hoc financial performance and key performance indicator reports to USBU Leadership.
  • Oversee the preparation of the Monthly USBU Results Deck with insightful commentary on both financial and non-financial performance indicators.
  • Present results and analysis to USBU leadership team.
  • Management and professional development of the USBU BP&A team

Revenue Accounting

  • Oversee revenue recognition process (gross-to-net) of $13B of US BU product sales over multiple legal entities for a diverse portfolio of products, including management of the commercial controllership team based in Exton, PA
  • Ensure IFRS and statutory financial requirements related to managing analysis, accounting, reconciliation and reporting of net sales and related accruals.
  • Drive efficiency through all revenue recognition processes.

Technical Accounting and Related Activities

  • Provide accounting and finance expertise for ongoing integration activities, new product launches, divestitures, and product LOE events.
  • Identify and evaluate improvement opportunities, review those opportunities with relevant stakeholders, and work with the team to implement the improvements. 
  • Coordinate with Takeda Business Services to ensure that business transactions are properly recorded.
  • Manage both internal and external audit and reporting requirements including quarterly and annual data submissions and audits, data gathering for and implementation of new accounting standards, and government reporting. 
  • Overall responsibility for compliance with SOX requirements in the USBU.


Education & Experience

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • MBA or MS in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Big Four experience preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years accounting/finance experience with at least 5 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements affecting multiple stakeholders
  • Experience working with all levels and disciplines of people within a large matrixed  organization
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical setting.
  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of financial management – budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, including consolidation across the company
  • Strong experience in creation of business plans, strategic and long-term plans and acquisition management, including implementation experience of controlling and financial activities
  • Management and process experience connected to M&A (integration, post-merger monitoring)


  • CPA


Ability to drive to or fly to various meetings – infrequent overnight travel.

Occasional international trips may be required.
