POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Scientist provides testing support for process development on various analytical platforms across various platforms. Collaborate cross functionally to implement high throughput assays and automation. Represents team on department program teams to ensure sample testing coordination, right assay selection and analyses of data to support study conclusions. Independently conducts and coordinates transfer of new in-process assays as well as feasibility studies of new molecules on existing platforms. Manages contractors to ensure work delegation and completion of tasks on time and appropriate quality. Leverages technical skill(s) as a resource/expert within the department.

Accountabilities

  • Scientist understands project timelines and deliverables and plans/coordinates project work accordingly with departmental, functional and external stakeholders

  • Supports process development by providing analytical testing on complex LC methods for various molecules and modalities within agreed upon turn-around

  • Monitors assay performance and conducts audit to ensure GLP compliance

  • Proactively identifies issues and coordinates potential resolution with the Analytical Development

  • Influences and supports initiatives related to new technology evaluation and implementation in IPA

  • Transfers assays and conducts feasibility studies on existing platforms for new molecules as needed

  • Represents team on department project teams to ensure sample testing coordination, right assay selection and analyses of data to support study conclusions.

  • Reviews, interprets and communicates data at project teams.

  • Evaluates new platforms and technologies for rapid analytics

  • Provide training and mentoring for junior analysts

  • Manages contractors to ensure work delegation and completion of tasks on time and with appropriate quality.

  • Recognized as a technical expert and resource within function 

  • Present analytical technologies and data at department meetings

  • Identify and implement improvements to operational processes within function

  • Strong knowledge of analytical techniques with advanced experience in multiple techniques such as LC, MS Able to work in lab setting; Experience representing IPA in a cross functional environment. team setting. Able to deliver under dynamic and fast pace environment and work in team setting

  • Significant experience with a broad variety of analytical techniques, including but not necessarily limited to liquid chromatography, gel or capillary electrophoresis, and/or spectroscopic-based methods.   Able to conduct troubleshooting for complex technical issues Subject matter expertise for complex methods.   General lab competencies such as equipment maintenance and compliance activities.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry, biology, or related pharmaceutical science and 8+ years relevant industry experience

  • Masters degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 5+ years relevant industry experience

  • Sound knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and/or current Good Laboratory Practice or (c)GLP

  • Previous experience with the use of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Analytical and Problem Solving Skills - Able to troubleshoot critical issues or problems using appropriate information and, determine causes and possible solutions

  • Teamwork -- Ability to work well on global cross-functional teams.

  • Communication Skills -Able to expresses one’s self clearly and concisely within team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; adjusts communication style as appropriate for the audience; timely and effectively communicates with  senior management; technical writing skills to support authorship and approval of internal technical documents

  • Organization – Exercises good time management and prioritization skills to balance multiple project and departmental objectives

  • Technical - Subject matter expertise and knowledge of applicable lab equipment and operations

  • Knowledge Sharing - Ability to capture knowledge within the organization; improves solutions, processes, and deliverables through use of information; improves information capital by contributing experience, theories, deliverables, and models for others to use

  • Resource Management -Project management skills; ability to manage one’s time within individual, departmental, and corporate goals and timelines; management of internal external resources (vendors)

  • External Involvement – Demonstrated involvement in professional community evidenced by presentation of scientific posters or lectures at professional conferences or events. Interacts with external vendors for projects

  • Leadership Skills – Develops and uses knowledge and interpersonal skills to appropriately influence and guide others towards the accomplishment of department/function goals and objectives.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May require approximately 5-10% travel
