Responsibilities

Primary Role

The primary role of the EHS Specialist I is to support all EHS compliance activities across the Massachusetts Bio Operations Site. This includes supporting EHS functions within manufacturing, warehouses, laboratories and offices. Assist with maintaining EHS permits and licenses, performing required inspections and investigations, gathering data for reports and EHS software management, providing training, assembling metrics and supporting sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

Responsibility percentages listed below are rough estimates and the list is not intended to be comprehensive.

·Performing regulatory inspections, monitoring, and activities (20%)

·Developing and maintaining site environmental and safety programs to ensure compliance with the latest regulations, best practices and corporate standards (20%)

·Gather and report EHS and sustainability metrics for internal or external reporting (10%)

·Performing risk assessments, specifying necessary control measures and providing direction to other Takeda departments regarding EHS compliance requirements (5%)

·Assisting in the investigation of EHS incidents, determining root causes or assessing root cause analyses, assisting in the development of corrective and preventative actions and tracking to closure (10%)

·Assist in the delivery of EHS training as required by regulations and by Takeda standards and procedures. (10%)

·Assist with EHS-related internal audits and inspections (5%)

·Develop and submit regulatory reports (10%)

Participate in project teams and advise on EHS requirements (10%)

Education & Experience Requirements

Essential: 0-3 years’ experience in the EHS field; prior internship experience is highly desired.

BS/BA required in technical discipline: Engineering, safety, industrial hygiene, environmental studies, life science or similar field.

Desired:  Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing/laboratories or other highly regulated industry (oil & gas, pulp & paper, chemical manufacturing, steel, etc.) strongly desired. 

Other Requirements

  • Position is located in Lexington or Cambridge, MA
  • Ability to operate a car (valid driver’s license) and travel via air, rail or other means of passenger conveyance. 
  • Travel to satellite locations required (Belmont, N. Reading, and Cambridge)
  • Travel to corporate EHS meetings, conferences, audits, etc. upon request
  • Continuous professional development by attending EHS professional organization meetings whether local or out of state
  • Candidate must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning and wear of protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.  No make-up, jewelry, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in manufacturing work environments. 
  • May involve occasional work in a cold, hot, high-noise, at heights, or wet environment. 
  • Work may be required outside of the standard 8-hour workday including weekends.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs. and remain standing or walking for extended periods In the performance of site inspection and compliance activities
  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions.
