POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • The Director of Commercial Capabilities Strategy and Alignment is a leading role on the Commercial Capabilities team at Takeda USA. The mission of the team is to build “Best-for Takeda” Functional Capabilities to support the ongoing development of people in these functions, build new or enhanced cross-BU process these teams support, and embed supporting tools which enable work. The team supports four business units: Neuroscience, Gastrointestinal, Plasma Derived Therapies, Hematology/Rare; and Managed Markets.  This team plays a significant role in the organization to establish and sustain needed capabilities to support our business today and into the future. 
  • This critical role will partner closely with the business units, New Product Planning, Managed Markets, Patient Services, US Medical, the US Strategy and Planning office, and our global marketing organization to define and later pull through new organization capabilities across the enterprise.  This will require leading matrixed teams, influencing change, providing strategic input into USBU special projects, assessing resourcing requirements, managing projects, and evaluating impact.  As a leader on the Commercial Capabilities Team, this individual will be responsible for identifying new strategic capabilities and organizational needs which cut across functions and identify a plan (in partnership with each functional leader on the commercial capabilities team) to embed and sustain those capabilities.  He/she will be responsible for the team prioritization, roadmap and investment planning. 
  • 75% of the role is strategic in nature and therefore will require an ability to comfortably work in “white space” to define strategies for building future capabilities; 25% of this role will be focused ensuring excellent execution and management of the strategic roadmap across functions and the Commercial Capabilities team.
  • The Director of Commercial Capabilities Strategy is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional who has a passion for improving patient and business outcomes.  This is a high visibility, high exposure role which cuts across teams and functions, influences at all levels, and ultimately will make a real lasting impact to the organization. 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for the Commercial Capabilities 3-yr roadmap which influences integrated cross-functional strategies and related supporting functional capabilities and plans.
  • Leverage relationships with business leaders across Commercial, Patient Services, and Medical; work to understand their business needs and related performance gaps, provide oversight and analysis when defining requirements, and demonstrate an understanding of processes and methodology in order to build appropriate capabilities (training, process, technology).
  • Provide strategic partnership to the US Strategy and Planning office to identify innovative capabilities and develop plans for organizational transformation
  • Lead collaborative efforts with stakeholders to define desired performance outcomes; provide feedback and consultation on issues related to needed capabilities
  • Responsible for translating/sharing relevant Commercial Capabilities learning and development programs for Medical and Patient Services
  • Provide support and guidance to Commercial Capabilities team members who are responsible for specific functions. Guide their plans and approaches to ensure consistency and connectedness
  • Support and or lead the design and delivery of training necessary to build competencies for a variety of functional teams
  • Monitor, analyze, interpret, and report internal trends; make recommendations for new capabilities across-functions, as appropriate. Maintain an external focus to drive innovative approaches for the organization
  • Partner with CLD operations team to stay current on learning and development related tools, techniques, strategies and practices in order to provide relevant, informed consultative advice to stakeholders; share leading learning practices with team and stakeholders
  • Monitor and assess impact of the roadmap through a USBU Capabilities Scorecard; manage inputs and recommendations to demonstrate progress to stakeholders.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years in strategic roles (could include background in Marketing, Corporate Strategy, Medical, New Product Planning, Managed Markets, Pt Services, Commercial Capabilities); pharmaceutical experience is preferred.
  • Experience with brand strategy and product launches is preferred
  • Previous organizational change management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and skills necessary to lead through change and influence without authority. Must have high organizational savvy and demonstrated ability to inspire change 
  • Demonstrates strategic and critical thinking, as well as problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in “white” space to define a strategy and execute with excellence; visionary and innovative
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a matrix environment
  • Strong organizational, planning and project management skills–ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks for multiple projects
  • High learning agility, grit, self-motivation, and curiosity are all traits necessary for success in this role
  • Proficient using MS Office suite.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to drive or fly to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips
  • Some international travel may be required
  • Requires approximately 10-20% travel
