Oligonucleotide therapeutics such as antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) is a promising drug platform for the treatment of neurological diseases. ASOs expand the set of druggable targets, which small-molecules and mAbs cannot access. However, currently oligonucleotides must be administered directly into the cerebral spinal fluid by invasive intrathecal administration to deliver inside the brain. Systemic administration with a novel DDS (drug delivery system) which could transfer ASO to the brain from blood represents many clinical benefits to patients. Our goal is to discover novel DDS which allow systemic administration of ASO to deliver into the brain.


  • This position is accountable for hypothesis generation, research planning and execution of cutting edge DDS research of ASO delivery by effectively communicating with research partners. In addition, search and evaluation of external technologies are also included in the role.
  • The research covers mechanism of action study via various cells including iPSC, immunohistochemical staining, protein binding analysis, and others.
  • This position is also accountable for reporting and writing research progress timely to one's supervisor.



  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and/or English to work productively as a research team
  • Proactive mindset to effectively drive collaborative researches forward with internal and external partners
  • PhD or equivalent in cell biology, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics or related field
  • Research experience in the field of blood-brain barrier or oligonucleotide DDS


  • Knowledge and expertise of drug discovery in the field of central nervous system diseases, pharmacokinetics, or safety.
  • Research experience of immunohistochemical staining, genetic analysis, proteomics
  • Experience of collaborative research with external partner.

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)
