OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Play a leadership role in search & evaluation to identify innovative programs/technologies within Takeda’s R&D strategic scope, relationship management with external stakeholders, including academia or start-up companies

  • Alliance management with collaborators

  • Lead the maximization of value for Takeda in collaborations across R&D functions

  • Provide oversight and management for Takeda’s entrepreneurial venture program (EVP)

  • Support/co-lead open innovation initiatives to accelerate/incubate ecosystem in Japan and APAC region led by the business

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Promote search & evaluation activities in Japan and APAC region aligned with therapeutic area in Takeda’s R&D strategy and CEI BD priority

  • Expand scouting capability to identify innovation in the region with collaborating external stakeholders

  • Design and keep a strong link with the CEI, including R&D BD TA Heads, Takeda Academic Innovation (TAI), and Takeda Ventures Inc (TVI), and other R&D business functions (e.g. Research Platforms, Drug Discovery Units, Development Operations, Therapeutic Area Units, Pharmaceutical Sciences)

  • Serve in an ambassador role working directly with internal experts and operational leadership within CEI, including R&D BD TA Heads, Takeda Academic Innovation(TAI), and Takeda Ventures Inc. (TVI)

  • Supervises and facilitates alliance management of major/cross-DDUs research collaboration in the region

  • Formulate and lead strategies to achieve mid-term value creation targets and optimize Takeda’s business commitment with partnerships demonstrating strong enterprise leadership

  • Identify, assess, and implement opportunities to continuously improve Takeda’s ability to effectively work externally and be a “partner of Choice”

  • Create cross-enterprise view of capability gaps, engage with Takeda and the strategic partner (s) to prioritize gaps and capability management

  • Lead to create a culture and values that attract, retains, and develops the most effective people

  • Role as a representative of Takeda in external related committees/groups

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Relevant knowledge and experience in Pharma Industry especially for R&D function to enable meaningful dialogue within Takeda and with partners

  • Line management or cross-functional leadership experience

  • Experience in business development or other relevant section: deep understanding / experience of scouting, search and evaluation of external innovations for R&D

  • Experience in alliance management for research/business collaborations with external partner

Leadership

  • Ability to initiate, develop, and implement new strategies and processes

  • Ability to motivate others to deliver

Interaction

  • Strong interpersonal communication skill

Innovation

  • Extensive understanding of life science filed, including drug discovery, (large and small) molecular science and pharmacology/Biology.

  • Relevant knowledge and understating of financials (P&L, cash flows), operational strategy, contracting, negotiation

Complexity

  • Excellent skills for collaboration with external and internal stakeholders in cross functional manner

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • M.S. in the field of life science (required)

  • Ph. D., MBA (preferred)

  • 修士課程修了(ライフサイエンス領域)

<実務経験>

  • 社内外のステークホルダーと十分な科学的議論を可能とする、製薬業界(特にR&D部門)での経験と知識
  • アラインマネジャーまたはクロス・ファンクション組織におけるリーダーシップ経験
  • 事業開発またはそれに準ずる部門における勤務経験 / 外部(R&D領域)イノベーションのスカウティング・サーチ・評価に関する深い知見
  • 外部パートナーとのアライアンスマネジメント経験

<スキル・資格>
