The Architect is a valued technical expert that advises, evaluates and designs the blueprint that enables short- and long-term business and IT strategy across all layers of IT solutions.  The Architect establishes the application/integration/data blueprint and business function IT standards that are aligned with business/IT strategy and the Legal domain.  The Architect works in collaboration with other architects in IT to establish overarching enterprise architecture to deliver capabilities that leverage and integrate shared and common technologies. 

The Architect provides domain knowledge to advise the Legal area on evaluating, designing, selecting and supporting implementation of IT systems. The Architect is then responsible for the technical design of a new capability based on the strategic value and impact of the solution and will oversee external resources as needed for a given project.  The Architect evolves the portfolio of technologies to support Legal.

The Architect will work in collaboration with other architects, business analysts, and service managers to ensure the state of the system (applications and underlying infrastructure components) is captured and technical, operational, demographic and architectural attributes of the systems are accurately maintained in Takeda’s systems of record.  The Architect drives or participates in innovation initiatives to deliver capabilities required by the business and also brings creative ideas and thinking to foster consideration of future improvements and opportunities that will benefit the business community.  The Architect acts as a consultant/adviser to the Legal area.

Strategic Partnering:

  • Create system/application/integration/data blueprint and standards for services supported
  • Participate in relevant road mapping and business case development activities to provide input on new projects (e.g., for new capabilities, lifecycle refresh and enhancements)
  • Assist key stakeholders with capacity forecasting and planning estimates related to IT project portfolio that falls within architect’s remit
  • Identify, develop and strengthen stakeholder relationships by taking a consultative approach when communicating progress, issues and status, and when sharing best practices

Plan and Build:

  • Provide technical leadership in the selection, design and configuration of the required architecture and map business requirements to systems/technical requirements
  • Possess and maintain broad technical and business knowledge of all aspects of the service
  • Formulate and define scope and objectives pertaining to the IT systems
  • Develop and document the system design specifications as part of any new project
  • Provide current best practice and third-party solution alternatives as part of the functional design document
  • Participate in process flow analysis and process redesign along with the Business Analyst
  • Ensure application architecture is consistent and compatible with other infrastructure and application components and are compliant with Takeda’s corporate standards
  • Ensure service metrics relating to performance, scalability or resilience are adhered to
  • Ensure disaster recovery requirements, both RPO and RTO, are incorporated into system designs and standards where appropriate
  • Provide external focus on competitors, industry trends and direction to identify opportunities to deliver new business capabilities/services
  • Provide design input on new services and solutions (e.g. solution architecture, app security, support model)


  • Manage and maintain the system roadmap and provide input and awareness of future upgrade plans and projects
  • Ensure the state of the system (application, data, integration and underlying infrastructure components) is captured along with business fit, technical, operational, demographic and architectural attributes and that they are accurately maintained in Takeda’s systems of record
  • Maintain the lifecycle management of relevant systems and applications, including potential decommissioning
  • Establish strong working relationship with required vendors to ensure upgrade paths, system dependencies and retirement plans are understood and accommodated for
  • Stay current on infrastructure and/or business line changes (internal or external), relevant vendor roadmaps and managing the appropriate remediation/mitigation efforts
  • Work closely with other architect teams to understand their future technology roadmaps and the associated impact on existing systems or future projects
  • Monitor the relevant information technology domains and trends and feed or support the innovation portfolio with novel technologies that are able to accelerate innovation, drug development or market access
  • Take accountability for innovation proof-of-concept

  • Collaborate with other architects to identify and establish common technologies that can be leveraged across business domains or at the enterprise level
  • Drive or participate in innovation initiatives to deliver new capabilities required by the business
  • Collaborate with other architects to share ideas, common practices and thought leadership in order to simplify technology landscape, improve the effectiveness of IT solutions, and ensure consistency and adherence to standards
  • Collaborate with other architects to identify and establish common technologies that can be leveraged across business domains or at the enterprise level
  • Drive or participate in innovation initiatives to deliver new capabilities required by the business

Complexity and Problem Solving

  • Incumbent will make decisions regarding standards and technical design
  • Incumbent will have the ability to evaluate complex systems, develop strategies to deliver capabilities desired of the business, and work within a constantly changing technology landscape

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering and/or business administration (required)
  • 3-7 years of IT work experience related to Legal systems’ architecture and related technologies (required)
  • Demonstrable and recent experience in architecture design and standards (required)
  • Knowledge of IT Computer Systems Validation processes (required)
  • Pharmaceuticals or Life Sciences experience specific to and with knowledge of Legal processes (preferred)
