Job Description

As a Director/Associate Director working on the Partnership Office team, you will be empowered to drive the strategic implementation of operational governance framework and relationship with Takeda’s full-service Strategic CRO Partners (e.g. Trial Delivery Operating Committee (TDOC), Therapeutic Area Unit (TAU) Operating Committee, and others as needed, and a typical day will include: 


  • Establish, develop and facilitate effective communication plan and change management process within Takeda related to Governance and operational delivery with each Strategic CRO Partner
  • In collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, develop, implement, report and action best in class analytics to optimize performance and harness value across strategic CRO partnerships. 
  • Contributes to the overall Partnership level strategic roadmap, process improvements & annual departmental objectives.


  • Responsible for overall governance preparation and coordination activities (pre and post)  between Takeda and the Strategic CRO Partners in collaboration with Partnership office Strategic CRO Partner leads
  • Liaise with Partnership Office CRO leads and CRO Partners for the following:
    • Monitor/trend overall performance metrics (delivery, quality, and cost) and identify opportunities for continuous improvement  
    • Proactively identify operational issue/trends across CRO partners
    • Take ownership of key actions originating from governance meetings, make recommendation on enhancements, socialize with stakeholders and have an implementation plan.
    • Facilitate alignment among R&D leaders as appropriate to address operational delivery topics and lessons learned
  • Establish, develop and facilitate effective communication plan and change management process within Takeda related to Governance and operational delivery with each Strategic CRO Partner
  • Work with relevant TDOC Co-Leads, Franchise / Portfolio Governance Directors, and Clinical Program Leads, as needed, to understand cross study trends, Governance process effectiveness and adherence
  • Liaise with Clinical Analytics Metrics Reporting Team and Clinical Operations to enhance our metrics, KPI’s and trends to make them informative and actionable.   
  • Ensure the delivery of quality metrics and reporting for effective Senior Leadership and PO Partnership Governance decision-making utilizing trending analysis and industry best practice standardization
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable internal policies, procedures and regulations


  • BS/BA degree required; advanced technical degree preferred
  • 10+ years of applicable drug development experience, global experience preferred
  • 5+ years of line management or team leadership experience
  • Proven experience with vendor relationship management in the R&D area
  • Demonstrated success in effectively managing external suppliers including negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of clinical study processes including a strong grasp of key performance measures, cycle times and value delivery measures across key functions (Clinical, Clinical Operations, Data Management, etc.)
  • Understanding of Pharmaceutical Industry R&D strategies and operating model, especially regarding GPSE, GRA and GCS
  • Knowledge of supplier business requirements
  • Ability to initiate, develop and implement new strategies and processes
  • Ability to manage large and global change agendas
  • Ability to assess issues/risks and effectively implement remediation measures
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of development operating processes
  • Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex financial data, identify issues and trends and develop/implement solutions
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, including senior management members, to accomplish shared goals.  Able to constructively voice opinions on sensitive issues to senior management.
  • Experience leading in a multi-disciplinary environment, including international exposure
  • Experience leading within a complex organization and demonstrated ability to work across functions and regions, at all levels without direct authority
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging regulations and industry interpretations to ensure compliance while reducing complexity
  • Ability to influence and work effectively with various business partnerships, regions, and cultures
  • Ability to identify the critical issues and root cause of a problem, and then determine the optimal solution.
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal presentation skills
